Chinese medals presented to U.S. Army and Navy leaders. Dr. H.H. Kung (left), personal representative of Chinese President Chiang-Kai-shek, presents the Grand Gordon of Paoting (Chinese medal) to Fleet Admiral of the Navy Ernest J. King (right), Commander in Chief of the U.S. Fleet and Chief of Naval William D. Leahy (center), Chief of Staff to U.S. President Harry S. Truman, looks on after receiving a similar decoration. The Ordoer of Yunhui was presented to Major General Lewis Andrew Pick who commanded an advance section of Army Service Forces supplying engineers constructing the Burma-Ledo (now the Stilwell) Road. General of the Army Douglas MacArthur was awarded the Grand Gordon of Paoting in absentia. The awards, presented by Dr. Kung in behalf of the Chinese Government, were made to the American military leaders in recognition of their 'distinguished services and outstanding achievement' in the 'joint war effort against our common enemy'.
