Italian officials visit Ardeatine Shrine of Nazi Victims. Crown Prince Umberto and Premier Ivanoo Bonomi of Italy listen to another Italian official as he gives a graphic description of the alleged of 320 Italians by the Nazis in the Ardeatine caves. In reprisal for the death of 26 Nazis from the explosion of a bomb in Rome March 23, 1944, the Germans are reported to have driven the civilians to the caves outside Rome, marched them inside and mowed them down with machine guns. One of the first official acts of the new Italian Government on its transfer from Salerno to Rome was to visit the graves. Allied officials have appointed a committee to identify the victims and verify the details of the atrocity charge.
