Die Steins : jüdische Familiengeschichte aus Krakau 1830-1999
Memoirs of a Jew born in 1923 in Kraków. He was arrested in 1940 and deported to the Krzeszowice labor camp. He managed to escape, returned to Kraków, and went into hiding. In January 1941 his parents and brother left for Nowy Targ in southern Poland; Stein joined them there. In fall 1941 they were taken for forced labor. In August 1942 many Jews were shot, including Stein's father, and 2,000 Jews were deported to Bełżec. Stein was sent to the Czarny Dunajec labor camp, with 45 other Jews; in 1943 he and his brother were sent to the Płaszów labor camp and in April 1944 to Gross-Rosen. In February 1945 they were taken on a death march to Flossenbürg, from where his brother was deported to Dachau. Stein was liberated in April 1945; his brother also survived. His mother and another brother were murdered in Belzec. After the war Stein settled in Switzerland. 1. Aufl. 148, 12 pages ; 21 cm
