Richard Meyer collection

<p>Richard Meyer (b.1918) was born into a Jewish family in Sinzig near Remagen on the Rhine. his great grandfather, Jakob Meyer, and his wife are buried in Remagen. His grandfather, Karl Meyer, was born there. His father married Rosa Meyer, daughter of Abraham and Emma Meyer from Sinzig. Three of his father's brothers and two of his mother's were officers in WWI, one was even a prisoner of war. </p><p>Richard had two brothers, Julius and Karl. Julius emigrated to Belgium and after the Nazis invaded fled to the south of France. He eventually died on the death march from Auschwitz to Dachau. Karl emigrated to Great Britain where he died young.&nbsp;</p><p>Richard fled to the Netherlands in 1938 and thence to England where he was interned. His parents managed to survive the war in hiding in France and eventually settled in England where they were buried.</p> Correspondence and other papers Open
