 History of the Archives:
 
 The regional archival administration in Sumy was established in 1925. Its function was to collect documentation from the local archives, to absorb documentation of the archives that were dismantled, to create original collections and to establish the newspaper archives. In 1930 the archival administration underwent reorganization and it became the local administration of Sumy. In 1932 it became the Historical State Archives of Sumy. Upon the establishment of the Sumy region in 1939, the State Historical Archives became the Regional Historical Archives affiliated with the NKVD archival authority. In 1941 the archives became the Regional Archives of Sumy along with the local archives in Hlukhiv, Konotop and Romny, which became its branches. In 1958 the archives became the Regional State Archives of Sumy. In 1969 the archives were moved to a new building, which enabled the transfer of the documentation from the Sumy and Konotop branches to the archives during 1971-1972. In 1980 the archives was called the State Archives of the Sumy Region. In September 1991 the documentation of the Archives of the regional Communist Party committee in Sumy were transferred to it.
 
 Included in the collection is documentation of the Notary's office in Romny; Ukrainian newspapers published during the war period; lists of residents in Sumy, from the war period; documentation of the rural administrations; documentation of the German authorities and the municipality in Romny; documentation of the municipal Notary's office in Sumy, 1941-1942; documentation of the municipal administration and local authorities in Romny, 1941-1943; documentation of the tax authorities in Romny, from the 1930s and 1940s; documentation of the district administrations in the Sumy region, 1941-1944; documentation of the city authority in Putivl, 1941-1943; documentation of the People's Courts of Law in Konotop, 1944-1947; documentation regarding partisans and underground movements that were active in the Sumy region.
