Wehrmacht

De Wehrmacht was vanaf 1935 de naam van het Duitse leger (hiervoor Reichswehr genaamd), dat op bevel van Hitler steeds meer werd uitgebouwd. Een sterk aanvalsleger was voor het verwezenlijken van zijn oorlogsdoeleinden noodzakelijk. De Wehrmacht bestond uit een landmacht (Heer), een luchtmacht (Luftwaffe) en een marine (Kriegsmarine). De SS was een zelfstandige organisatie maar werd wel ingezet in operationeel verband met Wehrmacht-eenheden. Vooral op de Balkan, in Oost-Europa en in de Sovjet-Unie was de Wehrmacht betrokken bij oorlogsmisdaden. In Nederland was de Wehrmacht verantwoordelijk voor de razzia in Putten op 2 oktober 1944.
