Weinstein family papers
Copyright Holder: Center for the Studies of History and Culture of East European Jewry (Judaica Center) of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Kyiv, Ukraine Contains photocopies of personal letters, a report card, and school compositions of Vladimir Weinstein from an orphanage for gifted children in postwar Kiev. Also included is a photocopy of an unsigned, untitled drawing and a (later) undated clipping about Vladimir’s brother and renowned painter Mikhail. While their father fought in the war, the Weinsteins were evacuated to the Urals with their mother, who died shortly afterwards. Vladimir Weinstein was born in 1934. During the Second World War, Vladimir found himself (along with his mother, grandmother and younger brother, Mikhail) evacuated to the Urals, while his father fought on the front as a soldier in the Red Army. His mother died shortly thereafter, and Vladimir and Mikhail were placed in an orphan’s home.
