Boys learning Hebrew at Ilaniah, some of the 500 children who lived and worked there to prepare for life in Israel. These childrens' parents were killed by the Germans; the families coming from Romania, and in smaller numbers from Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Germany. The children were rescued by the Jewish Agency and AJDC and brought to Ilaniah, coming from very poor living conditions in European DP camps. At Ilaniah the children recuperated and learned skills for life in Israel. AJDC financed their transport to Ilaniah. their recuperation and final settlement in Israel.
