On the left, seated, with armes folded ans also in civilian clothes, is Field Marshal Erwin von Witzleben, a former commander in Franco and Italy. Both men, with other high ranking German officers, were sentenced to death and hung for the part they allegedly played in the plot to assassinate Hitler and seize power July 20, 1944.
