How women do men's war jobs. Toggle Press Operators Make Airplane Parts. A toggle press in an airplane plant on the U.S. Pacific Coast is kept going night and day, turning out parts of airplanes, by the young woman who operates it and two others who relieve each other in eight hour shifts. The number of parts the press turns out every 24 hours runs into the many thousands, for the factory's output are the widely used P-51 Mustang Fighter Planes and the B-25 Billy Mitchell Medium Bombers. Skill necessary in operating the press was acquired by the operators in a comparatively briefs course of training, for American women, like those of many other lands, have proven equal to the problem of quickly learning mechanical skills in the war emergency.
