How women do men's war jobs. Woman Runs Giant Press. Dwarfed by the enormous press she operates, the U.S. woman war worker controls it with the touch of a finger. She pushes a button on the control panel at her right and the press comes down shaping several airplane parts at once against a metal dio. The press is designed for the mass production of parts and its operator, like thousands of other women in the United States, know nothing of mechanical work when she entered the plant as an emergency war worker. As operators of process, lathes, drills, and users of tool machinery of nearly all kinds, women have suprised seasoned shop forman by their quickness in learning, their care.
