Two days after German forces crossed the Polish frontier, France and England, in accordance with their pledge of assistance to Poland, declared war on the Nazi State and the smouldering continent of Europe burst into flames. Even while proclaiming in the Reichstag on October 6: "I have given expression to our readiness for peace," Hitler was consolidating his position in newly acquired Poland and the Nazi program of brutality, percecution and economic theft was being put into effect in the prostrate country.
