U.S. Forces enter Berlin. General Omar N. Bradley (left, background) watches as a new type American tank of the Second U.S. Armored Division, carrying a 76mm. gun, passes along the Berliner Strasse on its way toward the Heart of Berlin to participate in ceremonies commemorating arrival of the U.S. occupation force in Germany's capital city (American Independence Day). At 4 P.M. (Berlin time), soldiers of the Second Armored Division ran up the American Flag over the Adolf Hitler barracks in the Borough of Zehlendorf as they took over a section of the city which is to be under U.S. control. Standing next to General Bradley is Major General Floyd Parks (pointing), Commanding General, First Allied Airborne Army, and the overall commander of the U.S. zone in Berlin. General Bradley is acting commander of the European Theater of Operations in the absense of General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower.
