U.S. forces enter Berlin. Russian troops, marching out of the American zone of Berlin as the Second U.S. Armored Division moves in July 4, 1945, glance at a German woman tending the grave of a German soldier at the side of the Autobahn. The soldier evidently was buried where he was killed. U.S. forces took over the southwestern sector of Berlin to complete the joint occupation of the German capital by the Allies. The American zone comprises approximately 75 square miles and is largely residential.
